We'll also have a stand at the Handmade craft market in Erina on the central coast from 10am-2pm at the Erina High School.

Quite a while ago I sold my very last deer cushion in this fabric to a customer who was revamping her girl's room.
Here's the result!
I love the all of the cushions,my deer one is peeping out and I'm told it take's pride of place on this little lady's bed.

Boy's Stuff

Ethan and I had a little photo shoot today while the girl's were out.
I've finally finished his quilt(my first)and I'm really happy with it.
This winter I'm adding some boy's tee's to my line up size 1-4 available at my next market at the Olive Tree market in Newcastle on the Easter weekend,the 3rd of April.
I'm really getting into making boy's stuff.
Thinking of doing some sailor,owl and teddy bear softies for boys.

I was a little over ambitious in my previous post re Mathilda's in July.

We won't be selling there,although we will be at the November market.

The lovely Sam from Arabella's Corner is selling some of my products at the Kiama markets on the 3rd Sunday of the month and at Berry Markets on the first Sunday of the month.

Well Mathilda's was a resounding success!!!

Great sales and I got to meet some lovely customers and a few fellow bloggers including this lovely lady!!!

My neighbours,the lovely sister's from Barefoot Babies and Mayka from Little Rose held fort for me a few times for those numerous dashes to the loo,Thanks guys!!!

It was lovely also to meet this rad chick,as I've been a fan of her gorgeous dresses for a while.

My mum and hubby have convinced me to have a stall at the July market when baby boy will only be 4 weeks old.Eek!!!

I'll have reinforcements this time though so,Bring it on!!!!!!!!!

Here is the latest addition to the shop.

I'm planning on making a few of these,with a bit of punk pink and blue hair ,in different styles too.

Not that there's much work going on right now,Mairi went back to school on Wednesday and Skye's first day back at daycare was yesterday and I achieved zilch!

I mopped around missing them,the school holidays were so fun and I hate being home alone.

I love what I do,but I find in the solitary nature of having an online business difficult.

Any other extroverts out there running a home business?

Tomato's!!!!!!

Well,my hubby's the gardener so it's down to him mostly.

This year we planted grape tom's and we couldn't be happier with the result.

We grow organically and the bigger tomatoes have always been a killer,full of pests,this year was the best year yet,no pests.

I highly recommend them.

I turned this lot into a sauce for pasta and pizza bases and froze it in portions.

The secret in combining the fresh and sweet caramelized roast tomato together.

Try it....trust me....it's delicious.

Mel's Tomato Sauce

3 kilo's of grape or any tomato(homegrown or in season are best)

1 medium brown onion,finely diced

5-7 cloves of garlic,finely diced

a handful of fresh mixed herbs(thyme,sage and parsley are best)chopped finely

1/4 -1/2 teaspoon of salt( to taste)

Olive Oil

Toss half of the washed tomato's into a baking dish with a dash of olive oil,a little salt and half the herbs.

Use your hands to mix thoroughly.

Roast in own juices for about 45 mins at 200C.

Meanwhile,blitz the other half of the tom's with a handheld blitzer of food processor until liquidised.

Soften,the onion,garlic and remaining herbs in a deep frying pan over a medium/high heated until translucent ,add the fresh blitzed tomato's,reduce heat to low and simmer for around 1 hour until reduced to a sauce consistency.

Add roasted tomatoes and reduce further if needed.

Add a pinch of salt and taste,you may need to add more depending on the sweetness of your tomato's.

Use as a pizza sauce or serve with pasta and fresh basil.

Divine!

On another note,my huge 6 month gap from blogging has been due to my little business doing well and the fact that I've been under the weather with morning sickness for the last 4 months,as baby number three is due early June.

I will be getting my act together,this year,with weekly posts from now on(there I've said it out loud now I have to do it).

A wee while ago the lovely Apryl from Merdian Ariel organised a vintage swap and I was lucky enough to get get her as my partner.
Here is part of my present I received,an original painting from the lady herself.
I love it,it's on the wall above my sewing machine.

Pictured here too is a gift for our little friend,Simeon,who turned 2 last week. I don't usually do boy's clothes,so I'm glad it was well received,he looks super cute in it.
I've been feeling a bit like I can't be arsed with stuff at the mo,here in Sydney it's been raining for 2 1/2 weeks,nothing for some,big deal for moi,were are you Mr Sunshine???I promise I'll never take you for granted again.....

This week I've made a rabbit softie and matching top for a friend's little baby.
It has a matching mini bunny on her hand to snuggle up to at night.
I had so much fun making it.
Meanwhile,at Casa Ainsworth we officially have a toddler now.The tantrums,the climbing,cheekiness.

On the 13th of April due to an electrical strom our internet stopped working!RRrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!.
It is so frustrating not being able to access the internet and not knowing what the problem is.
We are back on line now and the prob is sorted.
Missed you guys!!!
It was good to live without the internet for a while too.
A little time away made me realise I've been obsessing a little too much(bloody Librians we have next to no sense of proportion) about my little page in cyberspace and I've set myself a couple of rules ...like do not turn the computer on before the school run in the morning.....always ends in tears!
So in running order this is what we've been up to.
Hosted a party for 35 5yo's.(Indoors due to the shocking weather)
We went camping with friend's.
Made some bunting for Mairi's friend Sarah who turned 5 on the 10th of April.

My poor bubba's sleep routine is completely topsy turvy.She has had a little cat nap this morning,but pretty much cried the rest of the day.Thank goodness for the wiggles,she's dancing to the cd now....I have managed to update my shop during the reprieve.I made Skye this yo-yo singlet last month and decided to do a couple more on the weekend.
More colours and sizes to follow through the week.

Domestic Goddess' and Mail Bliss

When Mairi was born I was over the moon to have a healthy baby and I had secretly wished for a little girl,I got my wish but I was determined to bring her up free form gender stereotypes.
But come 18 months old,she really did seem to prefer baby dolls was interested in social happenings and domestic stuff more so than anything else.
When Skye came along it happened for her even earlier I saw her at 10 months old nursing and playing with babies.
I guess the point is, before I had children(and my experience only being girls thus far)I would of never imagined posing for a picture like this,but the more I get into this game(motherhood and housewivery)I realise that it's a really important job we do and more so in my experience something fundamental to being a female whether we are mothers or not is the need to nurture.Whether it's looking after our children,partners,friends and/or animals.
So why not look spunky while we are at it!
Wow!That was a deep paragraph to show off the little pinny I found for Skye at the oppy.

More Kitties

Been a busy little crafter this week,I have renewed vigour this week,sparked by a solution to childcare and a decision to do a local market fortnightly starting May,so I've been hard at work producing some Kitty Cats and I've also listed some Babushka doll hanging ornaments that I made at Xmas time for the tree,but I love them so much we've had them on display on top of a bookcase hanging off an Ikea display thingo and they look Fab! Would also look good on a door handle!
They will be listed in my etsy shop,from 1pm today.

Crafting for Jack

I had the chance this Easter break to catch up with my oldest friend,Jane.She lives in the town where I grew up and I miss her.We had an evening without kids and a day with kids.Oh the luxury!I really miss spending time with her.I even got to spoil her baby,5 month old Jack a little.Here's what I made for him.I'm knackered today.Skysie woke up 8 times last night.Not used to it anymore,and typically I've arranged to go out with some girlfriends for Vietnamese tonight.
I hope I can string a sentence together by then.

Today-all it did was rain.The kid's were whingy.

It's a little tote with a hand embroidered love heart.
Mairi had the idea to create this for her buddy,Jai at big school.Now it's finished she's to scared to give it to her.She's wants me to ask Jai's mum for her address so we can pop it in the post.Oh..the social intricacies of big school!

On wednesday,I found this dress at the op-shop.

Woo Hoo!

After complaining to Ainslie that I rarley find great stuff.I scored this number.Who knows where I'll wear it.It's a bit out there-floor length red,but I couldn't leave without it.

Then that afternoon Eva arrived all the way from the UK,Thanks Katy!

I have been very strong,I bought her for my daughter's b'day in April,but I want it.

Mine,Mine-miiiiinnnnnnnne!

Boy-Motherhood can bring lots of sacrifes. ;)

Throw in swimming and visiting friend's there hasn't been much crafting.

Ok,here goes,

1. I HATE to iron.I mean ,abhor it.I'm feeling cross just typing this.

The only things I will iron are the girls dresses or skirts if I've made them,obviously ,if I'm making something to sell and my husband's kilt.

2. I meet my hubby in Glasgow at a pub called "Nice and Sleazy"!

3. I can sign Auslan(Australian Sign Language) fluently.I grew up with a profoundly Deaf cousin and her only true means of communication is Auslan.Four years ago I did some courses and worked within the Deaf community and finally became fluent. I am the first person in our family to learn Auslan and I'm really proud of that and happy that I have gotten to truly know my cousin.She's a crack up!

4. Having my second girl 17 months ago sparked my interest in sewing again.I hadn't seriously sewn for about 10 years.

5.I love going to the movies by myself.

6.I've got half an Art degree.The 'Art' scene annoys me.

7.I used to live in Newcastle(AUS),Berlin,Inverness(Scotland) and Glasgow.

A weekend of sewing fun

We've been very busy this week.
Mairi is making a bag for her buddy at big school to say thank you for being a kind person.Awww!
So she had a go of the pinning,check out the photos,and then did some serious sewing.This was the first time has sewn by herself.
Previously, I've just had her on my lap,but this time we set up the presser foot on her bathroom step and after a few hiccups(not wanting to let the fabric feed through) she did really well.We are almost finished so we will post a picture when we are finished.
Later when Skye Rocket was asleep,I did some applique work on a skirt for Mairi,while Mairi busied herself,making a fabric collage,standing patiently waiting for the over locker scraps! That girl kills me,she's so into the craft,I love it!
The applique is inspired by a cover of a Japanese sewing mag that a saw around the place,I love the stylised flowers.
I was working with Pellon fusible webbing ,which I found tricky to work with.It kept sticking to everything it wasn't supposed to.I was using visoflex,but it is rather expensive.
I think it's worth the investment though.

Yay! We are finally up and running!

I have been wanting to start a blog for a while and now Mairi(Miu Miu) is finally at school,it's happened.

I have wanted to start this blog to meet like-minded crafty mummys and their wee ones and to keep me on track with my own projects.

Well,as I said before Mairi,my eldest has just started kindy last week and already I have had to keep her home,as this morning we all woke up with dreadful colds.

In true 41/2 year old style though,by 10am she seemed fine and I was pulling my hair out,so we had a photo shoot of my stuff in the backyard.Fun was had by all and she was really helpful.Here are some of the results.
